Sekala's main partner is the World Resources Institute (WRI). WRI is a non-profit, non-government, non-advocacy research institution committed to helping find solutions to global environmental challenges. WRI's mission is to move human society to live in ways that protect the earth's environment and its capacity to provide for the needs and aspirations of current and future generations. WRI focus on four goals: healthy ecosystems; a stable climate; sustainable business; and access to environmental information and decisions.
WRI has monitored forest cover change in Indonesia since 1997 when it partnered with Forest Watch Indonesia to publish the State of the Forests: Indonesia in 2002. It is now working together with Sekala and a range of other partners, including the World Bank, Forest Watch Indonesia and the Ministry of Forestry, on a forest governance initiative known as FOMAS. FOMAS aims to establish the conditions for transparency in the forest sector by making relevant, reliable, accurate and up-to-date forest sector information continuously available to the decision makers and the general public.
