SEKALA (PT Serasi Kelola Alam) is an Indonesian based consulting company that specializes in forest governance, Reduced Emissions from Deforestation and Degradation (REDD+), land use change, conservation, community mapping, spatial land use planning, conflict mitigation, Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and remote sensing. We also provide research and analysis for the forestry, agriculture, plantation, energy and mining sectors. Our company aims to develop realistic, tangible and innovative solutions for environmental problems. It also aims to offer balanced solutions that bring benefits for local people and the environment. These solutions ultimately seek to achieve social and environmental harmony. Our clients include donor agencies; local, national and international NGOs; government agencies; research organisations and companies. We have developed a unique ability to liaise with multiple stakeholders to mitigate conflicts and provide results.
Our core team is comprised of mapping specialists, project managers, analysts and technical experts with a wide range of expertise in natural resource management disciplines, spatial planning and mapping. Our team has extensive expertise on critical forestry issues, such as illegal logging, forest conservation, oil palm expansion, bioenergy, land use change and social forestry. We also provide analysis to a number of initiatives seeking to reduce carbon emissions through avoided deforestation and degradation (REDD+). SEKALA provides training and capacity building in GIS, remote sensing, forest governance, spatial analysis and modelling to government officials, NGOs, companies and other interested parties. Intensive training can also be provided via our internship programme.
