Strategic Environmental Assessment is a systematic decision support process, aiming to ensure that environmental and other sustainability aspects are considered in policy planning and programme making.
SEKALA has developed experience and received training in carrying out Strategic Environmental Assessments (SEA) in Indonesia.
In Papua, SEKALA led a consortium of organisations to carry out a SEA of Papua’s proposed spatial plan. The SEA sought to assist the Papuan provincial government to develop its spatial plan by assessing the economic, social and environmental consequences of different development scenarios. It also sought to build the capacity of the Papuan provincial government to integrate environmental and social concerns into development planning.
